Strip Club Types Explained: Full Nude vs Topless vs Bikini

Not all strip clubs are the same. The type of club — full nude, topless, bikini, or pastie bar — affects everything from the entertainment to whether alcohol is served. Here's what each type means.

Full Nude Clubs

Full nude clubs feature performers who may fully disrobe during their performances. These clubs tend to attract the most dedicated clientele and often have the most detailed community reviews.

Key characteristics:

  • Performers can be fully nude on stage and during dances
  • Many are BYOB (bring your own bottle) because local laws often prohibit full nudity where alcohol is served
  • If BYOB, you'll typically pay a setup fee ($5-20) for mixers, ice, and cups
  • Some full nude clubs in states with looser regulations do serve alcohol

Where to find them: Texas is known for its full nude BYOB clubs, particularly in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Browse Texas strip clubs to see the options.

Topless Clubs

Topless clubs are the most common type of strip club in the US. Performers go topless but do not fully disrobe.

Key characteristics:

  • Performers are topless during stage shows and dances
  • Almost always serve alcohol — full bar with cocktails, beer, and wine
  • Tend to have a more social, bar-like atmosphere
  • Often have higher drink prices to offset the entertainment

Where to find them: Topless clubs dominate in states like Florida, Nevada, and California. Browse Florida strip clubs or explore Las Vegas clubs.

Bikini Bars

Bikini bars or bikini clubs feature performers in bikinis or similar minimal clothing. No nudity.

Key characteristics:

  • Performers wear bikinis or lingerie — no nudity
  • Always serve alcohol
  • More relaxed atmosphere, closer to a regular bar
  • Often less expensive (lower cover charges, cheaper drinks)
  • Can be a good option for first-timers or couples

Pastie Bars

Pastie bars are a variation where performers wear pasties (nipple covers) instead of going fully topless. This is often driven by local ordinances that restrict nudity but allow pasties.

Key characteristics:

  • Performers wear pasties covering the nipples
  • Always serve alcohol
  • Common in areas where local laws restrict topless entertainment
  • Otherwise similar to topless clubs in atmosphere and pricing

Why the Difference? It's Usually the Law

The type of strip club in any given city is largely determined by local regulations:

  • Nudity and alcohol laws: Many cities and states prohibit full nudity where alcohol is sold. This is why full nude clubs are often BYOB.
  • Zoning laws: Strip clubs may be restricted to certain areas (industrial zones, away from schools/churches).
  • Local ordinances: Some cities ban lap dances, require minimum lighting levels, or mandate performer distance from patrons.

This is why you'll see very different club types in different cities. What's available in Houston is different from what you'll find in Miami.
